2022 finalist Nick Kyrgios to miss third consecutive Grand Slam after withdrawal from Wimbledon due to injury

The Australian player, Nick Kyrgios has been in the spotlight more for the drama he gets himself into than his tennis achievements. He got himself the nickname, the Wild Thing of tennis world because of his sassy comments, aggressiveness, and unconventional behavior on and off the court.

Former World number one, Andy Murray once described Kyrgios saying, “He’s dangerous; he’s unpredictable; he’s entertaining.” The Aussie keeps making valid cases for his nickname, the Wild Thing. 

Kyrgios made it to his first-ever Grand Slam finals last year. He lost to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon 2022 finals. Nick appeared so sure that he was going to take the major title someday. However, it looks like that ambition will have to wait a bit longer. 

Why Nick Kyrgios withdrew from Wimbledon?

Kyrgios has won 7 ATP titles in his decade as a tennis professional. Last year, the Wimbledon 2022 was a huge breakthrough for Kyrgios. He got his way up to the semi-finals against Rafael Nadal. However, Rafa had to walk over this match due to his injury. This sent the Wild Thing to proceed to his first Grand Slam finals where he lost against the favorite Serbian, Novak Djokovic.

This year was going to be Kyrgios’s year of Grand Slams. His uniquely stylish trick shots and play of style during the tournaments have won him fans across the world. Since he got close to winning the Australian and the Wimbledon in 2022, fans thought this year might give him a bigger chance at it. 

At the beginning of this year, Kyrgios had an injury and had to undergo surgery, This stopped him from competing in the Australian and French Open. The Wild Thing tried to train for a comeback this Wimbledon but sadly, he announced on Instagram that he has a torn ligament in his wrist. So, he will not be able to play for the third Grand Slam this year.

In an act of self-defense during a theft, Kyrgios ‘lacerated the side of his left foot’. Nick had to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. After this, he was not able to train due to the laceration on his feet that kept opening up whenever he put a shoe on.

The Box Office was training to come back to Wimbledon after his runner-up finals last year. Although, during his training, he noticed that his wrist felt off and a scan showed that he had a ligament torn. So, he announced that he will not be able to make it to SW19 either.

Because of his left leg injury, he has missed the Australian Open and the French Open. Now, his wrist is creating new problems that are halting his ambition to finally win a Grand Slam.
