One of the NFL’s most exciting wide receivers, DeAndre Hopkins, recently found himself in the middle of a social media uproar when the news started spreading of his trade deal. The 5 time Pro Bowl star receiver made a deal with the Tennessee Titans for a whopping $ 26 Million. It is reported that Hopkins was a free agent and many teams including the Bills, Patriots, and Raiders were looking to get him in their squad.
Hopkins’s 2-year deal with the Titans, from which he will receive a base salary of $12 million in 1st year could go up to $15 million considering the perks and side benefits. The deal is still being finalized and will be completed within a few days.
DeAndre Hopkins responds to fan backlash: “Always loved having haters”
Hopkins’s unexpected deal with the Tennessee Titans sparked a backlash from Arizona Cardinals’ supporters who felt betrayed by his leaving. The 31-year-old, though, replied to a fan on social media rather than avoiding it and tweeted: “ I always loved having haters and doubters but I appreciate it even more now. Titan up!!”

Some fans replied to the tweet and said that the hate is not towards him but to the franchise where he is going. Furthermore, another fan tweeted that he would have still supported him if he went to any other team like the Bills or the Patriots, but not the Titans. Some went on to even state that the decision can be a career ender for Hopkins.
The Titans can use a veteran and experienced wide receiver like DeAndre to move things around. Titans management has very high hopes for Hopkins as he has a special connection with the coaches and the players in the Titans. When Hopkins was selected for two of his five career Pro Bowls, Titans coach Mike Vrabel had been the Houston Texans’ linebackers coach and later their defensive coordinator. Tim Kelly, the offensive coordinator for the Titans at the time, was the play-caller for the Texans in 2019, during which Hopkins recorded 104 receptions with 1,165 yards & seven touchdowns.
D-Hops reportedly ditched Patriots for Titans
The free-agent receiver was in talks with both Titans as well as the Patriots but he chose Tennessee. The reason behind making this move is not clear however it does seem to be regarding the amount of money. The Titans were able to provide DeAndre with an amazing $26 million 2-year deal which could go up to $32 million and the Patriots were not able to match that. It is also reported that the Patriots were not pushing that hard for Hopkins which led the wide receiver to go with the Titans.
