Brock Purdy was one of the rising stars of this NFL season. The quarterback was not expected to deliver what he did, so when he proved his potential, he was asked to be the main quarterback against the Eagles in an all-important NFC Championship game.
Purdy could not do much in that game, as he got injured while throwing the ball. The young 49ers quarterback is now suffering from a torn UCL. Many 49ers fans, including teammates, believe the San Francisco team would be in the finals if Brock did not get injured.
However, the 49er is out of the tournament, and the team is searching for the best solutions for the upcoming season. Even though they are looking for new faces, the team does not want to play without the likes of Brock. I mean, why would they? Purdy, this season has won them crucial games. If the 49ers can help him grow, they will have a serious quarterback in their hands.
To do so, the San Francisco team must ensure that “Mr. Irrelevant” plays the 2023 season. The “Tommy John” is a popular surgery for torn UCL. Baseball players, mostly, get this surgery done, and it takes about a year and a half to recover. If Purdy goes through this surgery, he will miss the next season. However, the 49ers’ general manager John Lynch has planned a new surgery for the rookie Brock Purdy, allowing him to recover in just six months!
What surgery has John Lynch planned for Brock Purdy?
The surgery is known as the “surgical UCL repair augmented with an Internal Brace.” This surgery can get the job done in six months using the latest technology. This is great news for both Purdy, and the 49ers, as the surgery will allow him to play the next season.
Regarding the surgery, John Lynch said to the media,
“The positive bit of news is that it seems to be consistent that the right approach is that one that takes about that six-month point. Now everybody will also say you never know until you get in there. Every surgeon will tell you that on every surgery. You always like getting in to see exactly … They’re continuing to work through that process, but we seem encouraged by the prognosis that that’s kind of where it’s at.”
If the surgery turns out to be successful, Brock will be back with the 49ers. Moreover, the San Francisco team will not have to look for a new quarterback if he is back. Indeed, it is great news for the 49ers fans.
From the rest of the 49ers fans, we hope Brock gets the surgery done and recovers swiftly!
Extremely risky to take the quicker option to rush him back. Hate to say it, but you know pass rushers will have those arms up targeting that release more than ever.
