Steve Wilks recently shared his first impression of the San Francisco 49ers’ star player Nick Bosa after joining the team as defensive coordinator, leading to undoubtedly making Bosa extremely thrilled before starting another chapter under Wilks’ guidance.
In Round 1 of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Niners selected Ohio State defensive end No. 2; he won Defensive Rookie of the Year honors that season, and they have a 37-14 record with him overall since.
The newly appointed defensive coordinator heaped high praise on Nick Bosa
In his first 49ers press conference, Wilks made an appearance on Friday and gave his opinions on a number of team members. He mentioned that over the past few months, he had spoken with a number of team players, including Bosa, via text.
Wilks stated that he had only heard good things about Nick, not only for his athletic prowess but also for his admirable personality, and he served as a reminder of the greatness of Nick on the field. In a nutshell, the DC also spoke about the 49ers’ top-notch defense being a result of the team’s players’ diligence.
“Just through text and they have all been great,” Wilks said. “I’ve only heard great things about him, even before I got here. Just his personality, going around the league, different guys that I know, and how they just rant and rave about him. The work ethic that he has most importantly is just across the board. The standard is set here. These guys work extremely hard, and I’m so impressed of just watching those guys work, even in phase one.”
The San Francisco 49er’s defense emerged as one of the league’s best units, allowing opponents just 77.7 rushing yards per game and an average of 3.4 yards per carry in 2022 and Steve sees itself as a great team effort with keeping the defensive end at the center.
“I would just watch the individual period every day and just see how they work at all three levels of the defense, and Bosa is a leader of that. He exemplifies that each and every day.”
The 25-year-old is a dominant force in the NFL, controlling with speed, power, and technical skill, and recorded at least one sack in 13 different games. By dint of excellent defensive knowledge, he, thus, became just the fourth player to do so since the individual sack statistic was introduced in 1982.
Before relocating to San Francisco, Wilks may have conducted a thorough study on Bosa. So, the defensive coordinator will benefit greatly from comprehending Nick’s abilities and being able to properly direct him.
