At UFC Fight Night 212, some major developments took place, as co-headliner Jonathan Martinez received a little extra compensation for his wicked striking display, and after the showdown, four fighters picked up an extra $50,000 for their performances in Las Vegas. Check out the winners below.
Earlier, Dusko Todorovic and Jordan Wright earned “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their back-and-forth middleweight scrap. In the first round, things weren’t as he wanted, but later Todorovic came out with the proverbial guns blazing.
Dusko had Wright for a couple of minutes, then kept the pressure on until he got him to the canvas. Then Todorovic turned things around to out strike Wright 105-5 in the second before the finish. Although they both earned “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their back-and-forth middleweight scrap.
Meanwhile, CJ Vergara (10-4-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) made things look easy against Tatsuro Taira (12-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC). At the first round Taira was struggling but after the first round Taira took the fight back to the canvas. He took Vergara’s back.
Then, after a transition to a body triangle, Taira went for a triangle choke mode and had Vergara’s arm for a few moments. But when Vergara tried to break loose, it allowed Taira to straighten the arm out for an armbar finish to stay unbeaten. And with that, finally, Japanese prospect Tatsuro Taira took home the card’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” check.
