With the exception of a tight period in the fifth game when Coric saved three break points, both players maintained their serves comfortably throughout the whole set. Despite having a match point, Carlos Alcaraz blew it on his serve in the tiebreak, giving Coric the opportunity to win the set.
A super tiebreak to 10 points was required to determine the winner when the match was deadlocked. Alcaraz demonstrated his skill in this critical tiebreak, winning 10-5 and breaking Coric’s serve five times in eight service points. The teenage tennis player put on an outstanding display of talent and tenacity. Due to the earlier loss of 2-1 to Belgium, the Spanish team had no chance of winning the tournament after this defeat.
