Before SummerSlam, Roman Reigns defends the Universal title but is mocked by the crowd for having trouble lifting Rey Mysterio

SummerSlam is right around the corner, and Roman Reigns is defending his undisputed WWE Universal Championship on a PLE after Wrestlemania. The Bloodline implosion made a way for Jey Uso to go head-to-head with the Tribal Chief for the third time; this time, the winner actually takes all.

It is rare to witness the Tribal Chief wrestle, especially at live events. But if the live event is special, WWE has to have their current biggest box office attraction on the show. With Reigns defending his title, fans spotted a sequence that is unlike the Head of the Table.

Roman Reigns’ Universal championship defense against Rey Mysterio is jeered

Recently, WWE visited Mexico to host a live event. The event was jam-packed with an electric crowd, and the main show of the event was Reigns vs Mysterio for the coveted title.

During the match, when Mysterio was on the top turnbuckle, Reigns proceeded to do a superplex, but kind of failed to do so. Of course, the sequence was for Mysterio to counter, but fans have taken a shot at Roman for sure regarding this.

Fans were left wondering: Reigns is much bigger and more muscular than Mysterio, but why can’t he pick him up? Some fans even tried to suggest Reigns should head to Hollywood, as wrestling is not for him anymore. Nonetheless, the match went great, and Reigns successfully defended his title.

The first time after Wrestlemania, Roman defended his title against Rey Mysterio at a house show. It was on the same day that CM Punk made his iconic return to the AEW Collision. WWE had to bring the eyes of the wrestling fans to their product, and what better way to do that than to have Reigns wrestle a match?

Roman Reigns to face Jey Uso at SummerSlam

The family warfare hasn’t concluded even after the Bloodline Civil War, as Jey Uso still feels that he should be the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and the Tribal Chief. Roman Reigns is scheduled to defend his cousin in what is supposed to be one of the iconic SummerSlam matches.

The duo is set to collide in a “Tribal Combat” match that states that everything, including the title and the status of the “Tribal Chief”, is on the line. It will be interesting to see whether WWE manages to produce one of the biggest matches of all time in this epic trilogy as the Bloodline officially seems to come to an end at SummerSlam.
