Former DX member picks match of the year featuring Roman Reigns

In comparison to recent times, WWE now more frequently pulls off many matches that can be nominated as the “Match of the Year” contender. Considering how most epic clashes have an epic storyline comprising months or even years behind them, it’s no easy task to pull off such a show.

WWE HOFer, Road Dogg, recently threw his hat on the much debated ‘Match of the Year’ ring by presenting his picks. 2023 is still a few months away from its conclusion and mega storylines like the ‘Mysterio Family Debackle’ and the ‘Bloodline Civil War’ haven’t even reached their definitive conclusions. Let’s see what the veteran has to say in light of the current state of WWE events!

Road Dogg picks his match of the year

According to the former DX member, the Bloodline Civil War is the ‘Match of the Year’. The tensions between the faction was growing for a very long time. Back when Sami Zayn was trying to secure a seat at the table, many fans suspected a mega-betrayal.

That heartbreaking segment finally came to fruition when Roman asked the honorary UCE to attack Kevin Owens. The Canadian promptly refused and was subjected to a brutal beatdown that left both him and Owens devastated.

However, things were never the same after this incident. Returning stars like Cody Rhodes were expected to beat the ‘Tribal Cheif’ and end his near 1000-day run in Wrestlemania 39, but the Usos intervened in the last moment and saved the day.

In between these conflicts, the Usos were becoming more and more aware of how Reigns was using their services to hold on to his titles. All this tension finally culminated with Jey Uso finally pinning Roman Reigns for the first time in three and a half years.

WWE had been protecting Roman Reigns from everyone, and sacrificing his no-pin streak to Jey has elevated Uso to a very high level in the promotion. The Usos have been through a lot, and they are now trying to prove themselves as the actual ONES!

Reigns set to clash with Jey Uso in “Tribal Combat” at SummerSlam

With Jey Uso showing his back to the Head of the Table and challenging for “Tribal Chief” status and the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on his way out of the Island of Relevancy, he is caught in a storm. Sure, Roman Reigns lost at Money in the Bank, but that was probably just the calm before the storm, as Jey will now face Reigns in a one-on-one “Tribal Combat” at SummerSlam.

This match can be considered a “Winner Takes All Match”, with the winner taking everything from his opponent. With Roman keeping his status and his title on the line, Jey is putting his supposed final shot at Roman Reigns courtesy of Jimmy being injured at the hands of Reigns and Solo.

With this potentially being the main event of SummerSlam, it will be interesting to see if WWE tries to produce the same magic as the earlier times they did when the two fought each other.
