WWE is renowned for having many female superstars on its roster. These Female superstars have a huge fanbase in WWE, and recently, the number of women coming to the WWE scene is steadily increasing.
Among these star wrestlers, two of the most famous in the industry are Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair. Both of them are an inspiration to many female newcomers in the industry. The in-ring presence of both wrestlers is immense. They have a great contribution to boosting the position of the female roster to fans.
Sasha and Charlotte faced off against each other in the first-ever women’s title match, that paved way for the huge female scene present in today’s WWE. Let’s take a look back to one of the greatest matches, one that is equally important as well.
Sasha Banks defeated Charlotte Flair for her first main roster championship
In July 2016, the first-ever women’s title match made a headline pay-per-view, which was a very special match for fans at that time. That match featured two of the most prominent female wrestlers at that time: Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair. It was a women’s Hell in a Cell match.
As both of the superstars made their grand entrances to the ring, there was great cheering from the audience present at the venue. In the first part of the match, Banks was bashed badly. But eventually, she won her first title win at the first-ever women’s Hell in the Cell match, claiming her first-ever main roster title in RAW.
Charlotte was the reigning women’s title champion for a long time. She even defeated many other title challengers with her might. Sasha Banks was also defeated by Miss Flair before the Hell in the Cell match of 2016. But, Charlotte’s winning streak came to an end by getting defeated by Sasha Banks.

After that time, the duo faced each other several times. This in-ring rivalry was one of the long-running scenarios in WWE for a long time. Due to the win at Hell in the Cell in 2016, Sasha Banks gained a huge fanbase even though she was popular since her debut.
Nearly 1,000 days have passed since WWE’s last female PLE main event
In WrestleMania 37, Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair faced each other for SmackDown Women’s Championship. This match was another historic match in WWE history. Sasha Banks aka The Boss was defeated by Bianca, which was her first title win. This match was the main event on the opening night of the show.
Since then there have been no Female PLE main events in WWE. It will officially surpass 1,000 days in January 2024 without a women’s match closing out a WWE PPV. The way things are now, with no rumors or news surrounding a female main event happening, that seems very likely.
By the first week of 2024, we will have officially surpassed 1,000 days without a Women’s match closing out a WWE PPV.
