Mayra Bueno Silva is known in the women’s section of UFC as the top contender for the Bantamweight title. She already has impressive wins in her portfolio like Holly Holm, the former UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion. Silva recently also brutally called out Julianna Peña and both fighters have been going back and forth with callouts.
After her recent fights and 4 fights undefeated streak, it really seemed that there was a really good chance of Mayra having a shot at the title. Ever since June 2023, the Bantamweight title of Women’s UFC has been vacant since Amanda Nunes retired. Julianna and “Sheetara” were among the top contenders for that title.
Julianna Pena slams Mayra Bueno Silva
Recently, Mayra took to her Instagram to announce that she tested positive pre-fight for her drug test ahead of her fight with Holly Holm. She also added that she is fully cooperative with the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) and USADA and that her bouts are being monitored as well.
#CHEATara, living up to your nickname.
Back to being a curtain jerker of an Apex card you go. You fought two 41yr olds this year and you had to cheat in order to get it done. Can't pass a #drugtest?
Keep my name out of your mouth ya dumb broad! pic.twitter.com/EMyfJu8xbo— Julianna Peña (@VenezuelanVixen) August 22, 2023
“The Venezuelan Vixen” was not at all happy with this information. Pena has already called Silva names like “curtain jerker” and she took to her “X” (formerly “Twitter”) account instantly to call out “Sheetara”. She tweeted: “Back to being a curtain jerker of an Apex card you go. You fought two 41yr olds this year and you had to cheat in order to get it done. Can’t pass a #drugtest?”. Julianna also called Mayra “CHEATara” to make fun of her nickname.
Mayra Bueno Silva failed drug test
“Sheetara” recently took to her Instagram account to announce that she failed a pre-fight drug test herself. She said: “I have tested positive for a substance that is consistent with the prescription medication I take for my ADHD”, thus giving a reason for testing positive. She also stated that experts have told her that the found substance “would not have an effect on my in-competition performance at that level”.
She further explained how devastated she is at the fact that “this has happened in my career”. The Brazilian Mixed Martial Artist pleaded to her fans to not jump to any conclusions and judge her without hearing out her part of the story as well. The worst part is that the drug test was done before her fight with Holm and this raises a lot of questions in the fans’ minds.
What do you think of the call-out? Do you think Julianna Peña was unnecessarily brutal with her comments? Do you think Silva’s win against Holly Holm was not deserved after learning that she failed a pre-fight drug test? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
