Cormier has always been straight-out vocal with his opinions regarding the sport and this time around, he also had a bold suggestion to make.
Daniel Cormier Wants Du Plessis to Be Strickland’s Opponent in Title Defense
Daniel Cormier, a respected figure in the world of combat sports, wasted no time in expressing his belief that the no. 1 contender in the division, Du Plessis, deserves the opportunity to compete for the UFC middleweight championship. In a recent interview, Cormier stated, “I think he deserves the opportunity to fight for the belt. He was supposed to be here (at UFC 293)… I feel like he gets the title fight.”
Cormier also expressed that he thinks “The Stylebender” should take an extended break from the sport for some time rather than aim for a quick reversal and go for revenge. He further emphasized, “The only way he (Dricus) doesn’t get that title fight is if by some way Khamzat Chimaev just starches Paulo Costa, and then the world starts to go crazy begging for Khamzat Chimaev to get an opportunity to fight for the belt.”

Sean Strickland’s sensational victory over Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 has sent shockwaves through the UFC’s middleweight division. Strickland is known for his relentless style and unwavering determination and to the surprise of a lot of people, he now stands atop the division as the newly crowned champion.
“Tarzan” beautifully gained control of the flow of the fight as he knocked Israel down in the first round. This was a massive hit to the confidence of “The Stylebender” and he could not fortify his offences to the level that he could score rounds in his favor. Ultimately and unexpectedly, Sean gained victory by unanimous decision.
