Sergio Perez has been unable to provide satisfactory performance to the Red Bull team, for many weekends in a row before finally hitting the podium in Monza GP. His actions in qualifying and constant crashes attracted a lot of negative attention from Helmut Marko and media alike.
Sergio Perez was able to provide race winning performances and stunning race craft getting off a strong start this season. However, once considered a title contender with Max Verstappen, Perez’s rise got diminished with his constant mistakes.
Perez believes in full team support at Red Bull
Perez is under a lot of pressure at the Red Bull camp with Marko giving out ultimatums to him that endanger his permanent race seat. Initially, he was considered the second driver but as the championship battles went on he faded in comparison to Max with the same race machine.
Perez was interviewed before the Singapore GP and he definitely was under media’s eyes.
Jones from Channel 4 jumped straight to the point and shot a direct, but well anticipated question at him.
“I was thinking that the pressure you must be under is extraordinary,” Jones said to Perez in an interview before the Singapore Grand Prix.
“It seems to me that sometimes you’re between a rock and a hard place. Helmut Marko in the press recently made a bit of a faux pass, you could say, that would be a good example.
“Sometimes it feels like even your own team are against you. Do you understand what I’m saying? Is it frustrating?”
Sergio Perez was quick to dismiss his attack at Red Bull higher ups and he answered by saying,
“I mean, from the outside it might look like that at times, that it’s not everyone in your corner and you might feel like things are harder than it should be,” Perez responded.
“But to be honest, in the team, I have full support and everyone wants me to succeed.”
It seems like despite the interviewers and the press trying to increase the intensity of the situation, Sergio Perez agrees with the criticism of his team and he has decided to put his faith in them.
Marko stated performance is key to Sergio Perez’s Red Bull seat
Red Bull’s Helmut Marko is known to be ruthless and on hunt for raw talent with sheer race winning pace. This in turn leads him to make split second decisions about who drives his car. He is always evaluating performances whether the driver is a seasoned pro or a rookie.
Sergio had definitely earned his seat at Red Bull, but at the same time, De Vries did it too and Marko didn’t even let him drive for one whole season before getting rid of him.
