Patriots’ Bill Belichick shakes up roster by resigning QB ahead of Jets clash

The New England Patriots isn’t the best team in this NFL regular season. The team didn’t win any game yet which has compelled the general manager of the team, Bill Belichick to make some quick roster decisions.

While the team already had decided on the 53 players’ roster, the recent situations have made it important to alter those decisions. But the pressure of winning their next game against the Jets has stressed Bill Belichick so much that he ended up re-signing a quarterback he released a day ago.

Patriots re-sign Matt Corral after unusual departure from team

Matt Corral, originally drafted by the Panthers in 2022, spent a season in Carolina but was placed on injured reserve due to a preseason foot injury.

He was claimed off waivers by the Patriots on August 31 and became their No. 2 quarterback. But on September 9, Bailey Zappe rejoined the Patriots which made Corral the no. 3 quarterback. On the same day, the team placed him on the exempt list.

After a few days, on September 18, Corral was released from the team and became a free agent. The GM, Bill Belichick didn’t share the reason behind the unusual release of the quarterback. He just declared a “personal issue” as the reason for Corral’s departure ahead of the game against the Jets.

But in an unexpected turn, just a day after Corral’s release the team decided to re-sign him. On September 19, he was signed to the Patriots’ practice squad.

As a member of the scout team, Corral can be elevated to the game-day roster on three different occasions or promoted to the 53-man roster. He can also be signed by any other NFL team at any time.

The reason why Corral was released and why the team decided to re-sign him is still not revealed. But it must have something to do with the team’s eagerness to secure their first win in this regular season.

Bill Belichick eyeing first Patriots victory vs Jets

Despite making many strong roster moves in the offseason, the Patriots aren’t playing well. The team didn’t win in the first two games they played this season. In both games, the team had the chance to win in the fourth quarter but ended up losing.

The quarterback of the team Mac Jones didn’t play very well and the offensive line of the team is also weak. All these factors are preventing the Patriots from getting their first victory this season. Now, the team has the next game against the Jets in Week 3. The Patriots and their general manager Bill Belichick are eager to win their first game this season.

For that reason, they have made some quick roster decisions before their next game. We hope these roster decisions will prove to be beneficial to the team and Patriots will be able to secure their first win in the upcoming game against the Jets.
