Dana White drops bombshell announcement on UFC 295 main event Alex Pereira against Jiri Prochazka, Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic

UFC 295 has been one of the most highly anticipated UFC events, with fans eagerly awaiting Conor McGregor’s long-awaited comeback. However, it appears McGregor’s fans will have to wait a little longer, as Dana White announced the main event and co-main event without Conor featuring in them.

In the main event of UFC 295, Jon Jones will be defending his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic, while Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka will be fighting for the vacant light heavyweight belt in the co-main event.

Alex Pereira vs Jiri Prochazka title bout

In a recent video, UFC president Dana White revealed the co-main event for the UFC 295 which will be the title fight for the light heavyweight division between Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka.

Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira will compete for the vacant 205-lb title, which was vacated in July by the former champion Jamahal Hill, who suffered an Achilles tendon injury in a pickup basketball game.

In the video, White further announced the main event and co-main event of UFC 296 as well. The main event will feature Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington for the welterweight title, and the co-main event will be a rematch between Alexandre Pantoja vs. Brandon Royval for the flyweight title.

Prochazka, a former UFC champion, had defeated Glover Teixeira for the strap in June 2022 but had to forfeit the championship due to injury. The fight against Pereira will mark his return to the octagon after 17 months. On the other hand, Pereira, the former UFC middleweight champion, will aim to become a titleholder in two weight classes following his title loss to Adesanya in April. Pereira moved to light heavyweight and won his debut in the division against former champion Jan Blachowicz in July.

Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic bout preview

The main event of the UFC 295 will be the bout between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. Jon Jones will be defending his heavyweight title for the first time against Miocic, after becoming the heavyweight champion defeating Ciryl Gane.

The former UFC heavyweight champion hasn’t fought in more than two years, and his last fight ended in devastating fashion at the hands of Francis Ngannou in 2021. While some may be betting on Miocic to lose, the Cleveland native has a different perspective.

Miocic stated that if people think he’s going to lose, then they’re going to lose a lot of money. He also emphasized that he hits a lot harder than people may think, addressing the doubts from MMA fans regarding his ability to face Jones at UFC 295.
