This summer, Harry Kane departed from Tottenham Hotspur to join German giants Bayern Munich for a transfer fee of $126 million on a four-year contract. He made an ambitious move, aspiring to win some silverware.
After Robert Lewandowski moved to Barcelona, Bayern were desperate to find a quality striker to fill the void, and they have now found the perfect replacement in Harry Kane. The 31-year-old recently admitted that the substantial price tag adds additional pressure to deliver, despite his flying start in Bavarian colors.
Kane reveals the weight of expectations at Bayern Munich
Since the England National Team captain’s arrival in Munich, Bayern have been on an unbeaten streak in the league, securing three wins in their last four games. Kane started in all of their league matches and scored four goals while providing four assists in just four appearances, marking a phenomenal start to his Bundesliga career.
Kane added another goal to his tally from a spot-kick and provided an assist to Leroy Sane for the opener against a familiar English opponent, Manchester United. Bayern Munich defeated the Red Devils with a 4-3 scoreline in their first game of the 2023–24 UEFA Champions League.
Following the latest win, Kane confessed that the huge price tag puts extra pressure on him to perform.
“As a striker, I know I’ll get chances. It’s exciting to play with them. We’re still getting to know each other. I’m excited for what’s to come. Whenever there’s a big price tag, there’s a big expectation and you want to repay the club who have put faith in you,” Kane revealed to TNT Sports.
Harry Kane completes blockbuster move to Bayern
Manchester United was also reportedly interested in buying Kane, though the 31-year-old chose to join the Bavarians as his next destination over the Red Devils. Bayern Munich convinced the striker of better future prospects while being able to persuade the Spurs.
While playing for Spurs, Kane became the all-time top scorer of the club. He scored 278 goals and provided 64 assists in 430 games for the club. Harry Kane bids goodbye to the Spurs after spending 19 long years with the London club.
The striker also became the second-highest goal scorer in Premier League history by scoring 218 league goals, second only to Alan Shearer, who had 260 goals.
