Logan Sargeant is the very first American racing driver to compete in Formula One for Williams Racing. Previously, he competed in the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship, driving for Carlin Motorsport, where he finished fourth overall in the standings. It was announced that Sargeant would be driving alongside Alexander Albon on November 21, 2022, replacing Canadian Nicholas Latifi for the 2023 season.
However, being so close to setting an example for the young American drivers, all of his hopes were shattered after a horrible crash in the qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix.
Logan Sargeant is out of Japanese GP qualifying after huge crash
The 22-year-old American has put his career at risk by crashing into the barriers in the Japanese Grand Prix qualifying. On-board footage shows that the American driver ran into an oversteer but didn’t release the throttle and pushed through it, which resulted in him colliding with the race wall. He will need to start the race from the twentieth, as he hasn’t been able to put a time on the board yet.
The Williams team will now need to repair the FW45 overnight before the race tomorrow. Williams team principal James Vowles explained to Sky Sports F1:
“So the main thing is for several races, Logan has been on an old aerodynamic package in many ways, actually, a bit of a hybrid.”

“Just simply because parts are becoming more and more difficult to come by as we certainly near the end of the year under the cost cap, what you don’t want to be doing is overproducing parts and we’ve had more attrition than we expected.
“I think it’s fair to say we have enough to deal with this accident as it is today.
“But it will mean that we have to divert attention away from other items to produce more square parts before we get to the end of the year.
“In terms of what happens overnight, we’ll have plenty to be able to rebuild the car.”

Fans were not entirely shocked by the incident due to Logan being a rookie, but they had expected better and claimed that the crashes occurred too often.
Many criticized the driver due to his pace, comparing him to Latifi.
