“Deflategate” Scandal: Explained
The “Deflategate” infamy refers to the controversy surrounding New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and the alleged deflation of footballs used in the AFC Championship Game on January 18, 2015. This game would have determined which team would advance to the Super Bowls XLIX.
In a more comprehensive sense, the term “Deflategate” spurred as Brady and the Patriots faced allegations that, the NFL rules were breached by deflating footballs. According to league regulations, NFL footballs must have an inflation level of 12.5 to 13.5 pounds per square inch (PSI). However, the absence of official pregame measures, as confirmed by the NFL’s officiating vice president Dean Blandino in 2015, created room for speculation and skepticism about the veracity of these measurements.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, disclosed that a total of 11 out of the 12 footballs employed during the initial half of the game underwent official scrutiny, revealing that they had fallen below the stipulated minimum PSI level by halftime. One football had a notable variation, measuring two PSI units below the specified threshold, while the rest had only minor deviations, characterized as “a few ticks” below the prescribed PSI level.
Following extensive inquiries, the National Football League (NFL) released a massive 253-page report that unequivocally implicated the New England Patriots in the scandalous saga of deflated footballs during the highly anticipated AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts. The report unflinchingly implicates the revered quarterback Tom Brady, revealing his awareness about the covert scheme to a certain degree.
Even though Brady denied all the allegations stating, “I didn’t alter the balls in any way”, he was ultimately suspended for four games. His team also received a $1 million fine, and two draft picks were forfeited.
Tom Brady’s biopic series to feature “Deflategate” scandal
News has surfaced within the creative confines of the Gotham Group that a biopic series called “The Patriot” is being scripted. The show is set to delve in the journey of Tom Brady, who was once a modest sixth-round NFL draft selection, where the New England Patriots had an unprecedented nine Super Bowl appearances under his direction, winning six of them.
Ellen Goldsmith-Vein will be in charge of directing the series’ production on behalf of the Gotham Group. The screenplay for “The Patriot Way,” which will be based on the 2018 book “12: The Inside Story of Tom Brady’s Fight for Redemption,” was approved by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson. It was penned by esteemed sports journalists Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge.
Fans anxiously anticipate the chance to see the unraveling of a riveting story that weaves the highs and lows of Brady’s career, including the “Deflategate” controversy.
Tamasy and Johnson claimed, “Our series will bring the audience inside Gillette Stadium, better known as Fortress Foxboro, to shed new light on the thrilling, historic come-from-behind victories; the dark side of success; and building a culture of winning at all costs.”
