Bryan Danielson is currently in the midst of an iconic AEW run, delivering memorable matches against the likes of Kenny Omega, Ricky Starks, Hangman Adam Page, and many others. Fans are thrilled to witness these dream matches as he decided to join AEW following a Hall of Fame-worthy career in WWE.
Danielson retired from in-ring competition in 2016 due to a neck injury and multiple concussions. Although he’s performing at a high level now, Bryan recently revealed that he is unable to participate in tournaments like the G1 Climax.
Bryan explains his G1 decision
The G1 Climax stands as one of the wrestling world’s most beloved events and tournaments, brought to life by New Japan Pro Wrestling. It spans four weeks and occurs annually in August, employing a round-robin format. The ultimate victor of the finals gains the opportunity to challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, one of professional wrestling’s most prestigious titles.
This momentous match unfolds at NJPW’s grandest event of the year, Wrestle Kingdom, hosted at the Tokyo Dome.Renowned for producing 5-star classics, the tournament has witnessed some of the greatest matches in the history of professional wrestling. However, its rigorous format demands that wrestlers engage in hard-fought battles every few days, making it one of the most demanding commitments for any wrestler.
As reported by Fightful Wrestling, Bryan Danielson explained how his injuries won’t have a long-term impact on his health if he’s careful and there’s no concrete science behind the long-term effects of the concussions he’s suffered over the years. Bryan Danielson added, “I think now, doing a G1, might be a little irresponsible of me, in comparison to what my overall long-term goals are, which is being there for my kids and there for my family.”
Danielson’s role in AEW Collision
Bryan Danielson, formerly known as Daniel Bryan in WWE, is widely recognized as one of the greatest professional wrestlers in history. He possesses an impeccable understanding of both the art and the business of wrestling. His friend from the Blackpool Combat Club, Jon Moxley, has even hailed him as “The Greatest of All Time.” Furthermore, Tony Khan has publicly named Bryan as the successor to the company in the event of unforeseen circumstances, highlighting the immense trust that the President of AEW has in The American Dragon.
Commentator for AEW Collision and WWE Legend Jim Ross recently revealed how Bryan Danielson has taken a leadership role in the locker room and labeled Collision as his show. He has successfully filled the void left by CM Punk on Collision. Ross was quoted, “He’s probably the most valuable player in AEW right now, at least in my opinion, not that we don’t have other MVPs. He’s really taken up a huge role, a leadership role. And that’s why I’m so blessed to be on Collision. That’s Bryan Danielson’s show.”
He went on to praise him by saying, “It’s great because he brings maturity and ideas, a spirit de corps. He’s very, very important to everything that we do on Saturday night, especially. Bryan is really one of the best. I don’t know who’s a better worker in the world than Bryan Danielson right now. We’re lucky to have him and I love him to be around.”
Wrestling fans are lucky to see Bryan Danielson wrestle again but it’s likely that his final run won’t go on for too long. With a dream match with Zack Sabre Jr. right around the corner, who else would you like to have The American Dragon face in AEW? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments.
