The former German international and veteran defender, Jerome Boateng, is currently training at Säbener Straße and is on the verge of joining his former club as a free agent. The 35-year-old will continue to train at Bayern Munich facilities in the upcoming days.

Is Jerome Boateng moving back to Bayern Munich?
Former Bayern Munich center-back Jerome Boateng had been an integral part of the club’s recent success in the past decade including two treble-winning seasons in 2013 and 2020 respectively. The 35-year-old central defender played 364 games for Bayern during his decade-long tenure in Munich. It seems he is returning to Munich after all.
In 2011, Jerome Boateng signed for the German champions Bayern Munich from Manchester City. With the Bundesliga side, he established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe. However, following the signing of Dayot Upamecano from Leipzig in 2021, Boateng was subsequently released by the Bavarians.
During his previous tenure at Bayern, the German defender clinched nine consecutive Bundesliga titles, two UEFA Champions League trophies, five DFB Pokal Cups, five Supercups, and two Club World Cup triumphs. Jerome Boateng lifted the Fifa world in 2014 in Brazil with the German National team, he was also named Germany’s Footballer of the Year in 2016.
Reportedly, the first part medical is already completed, and the negotiations are in their final stages. It’s a matter of time until a formal contract is offered to the veteran, and he may sign a short-term contract. The Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is convinced that the 35-year-old’s acquisition will strengthen the squad.
How many Bayern defenders are out injured right now?
The Bavarians are currently going through an injury crisis; most of their main defenders like Min-Jae, De Ligt and Upamecano are sidelined due to injuries. That’s why Bayern is looking to be bringing in free agent Boateng as a short-term solution.
The former German international will be training with the Bavarians’ first team until the next few days before officially signing the contract with the German Champions. However, it remains to be seen, whether Jerome will be entering into an agreement until January or till the end of the next season.
