Following humiliating defeat to Newcastle in the UCL, Luis Enrique releases blunt statement on difficulty level of managing PSG

A memorable evening for Newcastle United and their fans at St James Park as they registered a remarkable victory over an elite Paris Saint Germain led by the Spaniard tactician Luis Enrique with a huge 4-1 scoreline in the UEFA Champions League Matchday 2 on Wednesday.

The Magpies secured their first Champions League victory since returning to the competition. After the Parisians suffered their second loss of the season and first in the Champions League, Luis Enrique spoke about the difficulties of being PSG Boss.

Newcastle beat PSG

The English side from Newcastle Tyneside made their aspirational return to the biggest competition in the continent after a long wait of two decades. Eddie Howe steered his side to a top-four finish in the Premier League to cement their qualification.  

Newcastle were drawn in Group F of the Champions League alongside three big European heavyweights AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Paris Saint Germain considerably the toughest in the competition.

Newcastle United started their UEFA Champions League campaign against AC Milan, marking their comeback after 20 years. The match ended in a 0-0 draw at the iconic San Siro. Onto next, the Magpies welcomed the French giants Paris Saint Germain led by Kylian Mbappe at St James Park. 

The Premier League headed into the fixture with three consecutive domestic wins including 8-0 win over Sheffield United and Manchester City in the third round of the EFL Cup. Eddie Howe’s side stunned the guests by clinching a famous 4-0 victory. 

The Toons were relentless in their goal-scoring efforts, with Almiron and Dan Burns finding the net in the first half. In the second, Sean Longstaff extended the lead to 3-0, and a stoppage-time long-range effort from Fabian Schär sealed the three points for the Magpies. Although Lucas Hernandez managed to score one back for the visitors, their efforts weren’t enough for a comeback.

PSG boss talks about loss to Newcastle

Luis Enrique’s side had a promising start with a victory against Dortmund on the first Matchday. However, they were later defeated by Newcastle, despite dominating the match in terms of possession. They struggled to create opportunities, managing only two shots on target.

PSG coach, Luis Enrique congratulated Newcastle on the win alongside reacting to the disappointing loss upon being asked if it is difficult to coach PSG. He responded, “These are difficult games to go through as a coach. I think our attitude was very good. I think the result is a bit unfair. Not totally unfair, but it’s excessive.” 

After the loss, Paris Saint-Germain dropped to second place, while Newcastle climbed to the top spot. Meanwhile, Milan occupies third place, with Dortmund at the bottom of the table in fourth. Next PSG will play Milan at the end of this month.
