Luka Doncic weighs in on difference between Europe and NBA
Luka Doncic is a reminder for fans that the future of the NBA is in good hands. On Tuesday, the Mavericks played against Luka’s former club, Real Madrid. Luka was given a warm welcome by the club, which had helped him reach his full potential and make it to the NBA.
Doncic appeared at a press conference at the WiZink Center before the Dallas Mavericks’ game in the Spanish capital, sharing his feelings on his return to what was his home. Luka said, “If I return to Europe one day, I will surely go back to Madrid, that’s 100%.”
“But I don’t know what the future is going to be like. But if I come back, it will surely be at Real Madrid,” he repeated. Luka said that he had been looking forward to this game for a long time. He shared that he had told Mark Cuban about this many times and Mark had reassured him that this game was going to happen. Luka admitted that had he not joined Real Madrid, he wouldn’t be where he is right now.
Luka Doncic weighed in on the differences between the NBA and European basketball, arguing that the NBA game has fewer plays. He said, “I think it’s a very different kind of basketball.” “In the end, you have a wider court, and the 3-point line is further away. But I think that in Europe you play more as a team, that is, in fewer minutes you play more as a team. The plays are very important. I think there are not many plays in the NBA, so team basketball is very important,” he stressed.
Luka barely played in the game with Real Madrid and the Mavericks lost. However, Luka felt blessed to be able to play against his beloved Real Madrid team.
Luka Doncic’s performance during NBA preseason
Doncic was not fully fit and so he played less than five minutes and scored nine points in Dallas’ 127-123 loss against his former club. Tim Hardaway Jr. led all scorers with 21 points for the Mavs, who also lost their two preseason games against the Minnesota Timberwolves last week in Abu Dhabi.
Luka is still recovering from his calf injury and, as a result, was not able to play much. Despite this, he showed off his shooting skills whenever he got the chance. In order to fulfill the Dallas Mavericks’ championship aspirations, a fit and healthy Luka is a must.
