Before this reveal, he had been covering his injuries, such as wearing a disguise on October 1 when he walked into Cleveland Browns Stadium with a mask that concealed everything except his eyes.
After seeing the pictures, fans expressed concern and offered advice, with some suggesting he should wear a mask during games.
“He should mask up every game holy shit.”
His face is badly burned, which makes it difficult to even look at his pictures. Fans made sure to appreciate the determination of the tight end to still play and stay positive.
“Shows you how much passion some players have.”
One fan wrote, “Holy shit that must’ve had to hurt putting the helmet on.”
Exploring David Njoku’s face-burn case
Njoku suffered severe burns on his face and arm in a home fire pit accident in September. He was added to the injury report just before the game due to the burns he sustained while trying to light a fire pit at his home. But in the Week 4 game, he came back.
To cover his face burns, he made sure to wear a mask. Even during the game, his face wasn’t visible. No one had an idea how badly he was injured while he was playing.
Although the tight end had this severe injury and his face must be burning under the helmet, he played incredibly. He led the team in receptions and receiving yards during the 28-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Njoku’s determination to play in Week 4, despite his injuries, led some to suggest he should be considered for the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award.
Now, the Browns will have a bye in Week 5, which will give Njoku more time to heal and he plans to return to action in Week 6 against the 49ers. David Njoku is indeed a resilient and very determined athlete who didn’t leave his team despite his severe medical condition.
