Tim Tszyu has secured yet another victory, maintaining a clean track record without any losses. He convincingly defeated Brian Mendoza and expressed his desire to challenge fighters like Canelo Alvarez.
He mentioned that it would be an honor to face Canelo, hinting that it’s a dream fight for him if he gets the chance. He also acknowledged that the more immediate fight to consider would be against Jermell Charlo, but many people prefer to see Canelo fight Tim rather than Charlo.
Tim Tszyu latest candidate to fight Canelo
Tim Tszyu has had an amazing run so far, with his latest win solidifying his name in the boxing scene. Tim has a brilliant record of 24-0 with 17 of his wins coming from KO’s. Tim’s potential next fight should be against Charlo.
People wanted Tim to fight Canelo. So they were mad when the Charlo fight took place as Charlo fight was not even close and it felt like Jermell looked like his goal was not to get knocked out, so it wouldn’t mess up his plans for fighting Terence Crawford immediately after.
If Tszyu wants the fight with Canelo, he should move up to 160 and challenge IBF/WBO champ Janibek Alimkhanuly, WBA champion Erislandy Lara, or WBC interim belt holder Carlos Adames to pick up one of their titles. Janibek would be the ideal opponent for Tszyu, as it would give him the chance to fight for two belts.
Benavidez vs Andrade winner leads race to face Canelo
Benavidez has held the position of the leading challenger by the WBC to face Canelo for quite some time. The interim champion has eagerly awaited the opportunity to fight Canelo, but he’s had to wait. Canelo has chosen to face opponents like Charlo, causing the interim middleweight champion to continue waiting for their shot against Canelo.
Canelo will now have to face the interim champion who will most likely be decided once the Benavidez vs Andrade fight takes place. The winner of this fight will become the WBC interim champion for the middle weight division. Canelo has not shown a lot of interest in the fight with Benavidez though, ever since he beat Charlo.
