In the game of football, there is always a winner and a loser. While some athletes out there know how to accept defeat and deal with failure, others may not be so respectful. Netherlands’ former coach Louis Van Gaal had taken shots at Argentine winger Lionel Messi, saying that the World Cup favoured the former Barcelona player.
The 2022 World Cup was something that we had never seen before. The final match of the tournament was an absolute roller coaster of emotions, and it was the most tense football match the world has ever witnessed. Argentina won the World Cup, but Louis Van Gaal was clearly not happy with the result. His words have also now gotten him a reply from former Barcelona forward Hristo Stoichkov.
Hristo Stoichkov blasts Louis Van Gaal over rigged World Cup for Lionel Messi claim
Lionel Messi played a key role in Argentina’s victory. He even received the Golden Ball for his efforts and remarkable performance. Everyone has appreciated the Inter Miami ace except Louis Van Gaal. The 72-year-old faced Argentina in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Argentina acquired a 2-0 lead, but Wout Weghorst scored a brace in the dying minutes of the game, helping his team make a comeback. The Netherlands still lost the match in the penalty shootouts. Louis Van Gaal was unable to accept his defeat and claimed that the World Cup was ‘premeditated’.
Former Barcelona player and club legend Hristo Stoichkov has responded to these claims, saying that Van Gaal is a liar.
“I’m not good at everything either, but I’m trying to improve these aspects. I don’t want to be like him [Van Gaal]. Let’s talk about someone else, not him. He’s no one in my life. It is wrong. A liar I don’t want to waste another minute with. He is not worth it.”, Stoichkov said as per Mundo Deportivo.
Clearly, the Barcelona legend does not share the Dutchman’s views, even going on as far as to claim Louis van Gaal’s comments as lies.
Louis Van Gaal was spot on about Man United claim after departing
Premier League club Manchester United is not having their best time. The club’s performance in the league is highly unsatisfactory. They currently sit in tenth place with a mere twelve points to their name. While some fans blame the Glazer family, others have a problem with club manager Erik ten Hag.
Former United manager Louis Van Gaal gave his opinions on Ten Hag coming to United in 2022. Though at that time nobody paid attention to his words, people have now realized that what he said was, in fact, the truth.
In an interview last year, Van Gaal said that the 52-year-old should think twice before joining Manchester United as it is a commercial club, not a football club: “A great coach is good for Manchester United. But Manchester United is a commercial club. Those are difficult choices for a coach. As a coach, you should prefer a football club,” he said.
Louis Van Gaal’s words about Lionel Messi have not bothered the Argentine, who is going on a well-deserved vacation.
