David De Gea breaks silence after reports of Manchester United re-joining emerge

Andre Onana’s heroic save against FC Kobenhavn has given Manchester United their first 2023–24 UEFA Champions League Group Stage victory, but with the Cameroonian soon about to leave for international duty, the Red Devils are looking at David De Gea. United may make a U-turn on their former goalkeeper and try to work out a deal with him to bring back the player on a short-term contract.

De Gea has not said anything about the situation, but the Spaniard did post a cryptic message on his Twitter account that has left the fans wondering.

David De Gea posts cryptic message amid United speculations

Manchester United allowed David De Gea to leave as a free agent in the summer of 2023. They then brought in former Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana for £48 million. Fans had high hopes for the Cameroonian, but a few mistakes from his side cost United some important matches. Though Onana helped the Red Devils win against FC Kobenhavn, the mistakes he committed against teams like FC Bayern Munich and Galatasaray made him a villain in the public eye.

The 27-year-old is now set to leave for international duty and make an appearance in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations. This has now made the Red Devils have a look at their former goalkeeper, David De Gea. Reports claim that Manchester United are trying to work out a deal with the player who was associated with them for 12 years. The 32-year-old addressed the situation by posting a thinking emoji on his official Twitter account, which may mean that he is thinking about the move.

Former United keeper linked up with current stars

David De Gea first joined Manchester United in 2011; during his 12-year stint at the club, he made 545 appearances and broke United’s all-time clean sheet record. Though he is no longer associated with the club, David still has a good relationship with his former teammates.

In a photo uploaded to the Centerdevils Twitter account, we can see David De Gea with current club captain Bruno Fernandes. Apart from him, other players like Raphaël Varane, Victor Lindelöf, and Tom Heaton are also in the photo. The whole group is seen doing a little get-together over coffee with their former teammate.

We are yet to see if De Gea will make a return to the Premier League or not, but his addition to the club will surely change Manchester United’s standings in the current season.
