The Boogeyman is one of the scariest and spookiest wrestlers to ever step into the WWE, and the sheer weirdness of his character was so off-beat that it became popular among fans. Everyone remembers Boogeyman with his big clock and earthworms.
He used to be a feared name within the WWE between 2005 and 2007, and the man behind the gimmick, Martin Wright, played the role to perfection. He recently appeared on an episode of WWE’s ‘On The Bump,’ where special guests reveal never-before-heard stories.
Meeting the man behind the Boogeyman
Boogeyman’s real name is Martin Wright and he appeared on WWE television consistently between 2005 and 2009. He was something different which is exactly what the Ruthless Aggression Era needed. He runs a training facility in Colorado and also worked as an aerobics instructor earlier in his career. He also wrestled in other promotions like MWF and Pro Wrestling Alliance (PWA).
He was involved in feuds with the likes of Booker T and JBL, who are Hall of Famers and featured in numerous off-putting segments which were bizarre to say the least. Over the past few years, he has been making surprise appearances in WWE’s events which is appreciated by the WWE Universe.
The Boogeyman returns to WWE
The Boogeyman has featured and cameoed multiple times in the Stamford-based company in the past few years. He also helped R-Truth regain the 24/7 Championship and was involved in various segments in landmark shows such as the 30th Anniversary of RAW. The Boogeyman has been a part of On The Bump previously and it was the perfect time for him to make a return to the show as Halloween season is in full swing.
On The Bump’s Halloween edition featured the likes of Grayson Waller, Zelina Vega, Shotzi Blackheart to name a few other than The Boogeyman. He returned with his trademark earthworms and interacted with all the wrestlers on the panel. The episode was appreciated by the fans and the addition of Boogeyman elevated the show as a whole due to the Halloween theme. He also shared a video on X, thanking the fans.
There have been a few criticisms of WWE’s treatment of his character as he had more appearances in backstage segments than in-ring matches. What fans will never get to see is the unfulfilled potential of his character as a main event talent and it can be said that the WWE creative dropped the ball in late 2000s.
