The UEFA Champions League is one of the most difficult tournaments when it comes to club level. Every club tries to outshine their opponent to come out as the better side, and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe has surely played a major role in making his club the better side in their UCL Group Stage clash against AC Milan.
In an outstanding display of ability and tenacity, the French striker has not only etched his name into the annals of Parisian history, but he is also closing in on the famous Lionel Messi’s record. At a mere 24 years of age, this rising star is leaving spectators in awe with his remarkable performances on the field.
Kylian Mbappe’s historic achievement puts him on Messi’s goal-scoring trail
PSG and AC Milan faced each other in a 2023–24 UEFA Champions League Group Stage match on October 26 at the Parc des Princes stadium. The home side had a strong performance, dominating possession and controlling most of the game. Kylian Mbappe, the star striker for the Ligue 1 club, was the first player to score when he capitalized on an assist from Warren Zaire Emery in the 32nd minute of the match.
Kylian Mbappe’s goal not only gave his team a one-goal lead but also brought him closer to Lionel Messi’s goal-scoring record. At the age of 24, Mbappe has 42 UCL goals to his name. The only player who had scored more UCL goals than Kylian before turning 25 is Leo, who has 51 goals to his name. Mbappe will celebrate his 25th birthday on December 20, so it appears unlikely that he will surpass Lionel Messi. Nevertheless, he can continue scoring to solidify his position in second place.
PSG soars to the top with impressive UCL in vs AC Milan
Paris Saint-Germain’s performance in their second UEFA Champions League Group Stage match was shameful. The club was helpless against Newcastle United, who crushed them with a 4-1 victory. The Parisian giants have now come back better and stronger, and their recent match against AC Milan is proof of that. After Kylian Mbappe’s goal, forward Randal Kolo Muani also scored one for his team in the 53rd minute. PSG’s new signing, Kang In Lee, who is reported to sell more t-shirts than Mbappe, put the last nail in the coffin, scoring a late goal in the 89th minute with a little help from his teammate Warren Zaire Emery.
This victory for the home side has now put them at the top of their respective groups. Group F of the 2023–24 UCL consists of some strong teams like PSG, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, and Newcastle United. PSG currently enjoys first place with six points, and the Ligue 1 giants would probably want to keep it that way.
Kylian Mbappe is a great player, but it seems like the striker still does not have what it takes to match Lionel Messi.
