Following George Pickens ‘free me’ plea on social media, Steelers HC Mike Tomlin claims WR’s situation is like ‘reality television’

The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Receiver is seemingly cross with his team. After the team’s 20-16 win over the Tennessee Titans, Pickens expressed his frustration openly. The 22-year-old is reportedly not happy with his role in the games.

His recent hints and social media activity have fueled rumors of a potential trade request. Amid these speculations, the head coach of the team Mike Tomlin shared his stance on the matter.

Steelers HC talks about drama surrounding George Pickens

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin responded to the social media drama surrounding the 22-year-old. He downplayed the issue, likening it to reality television and emphasizing the need to focus on their upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers who are without their star QB Aaron Rodgers this season.

“This week, our focus is on the Green Bay Packers and what we’re all going to do in this football game, and I can’t state it any better than that. It’s like reality television, the way you guys follow social media and write stories about it.”

The coach emphasized that George Pickens’ situation isn’t a big deal for him, and he is rather focusing on the game against the Green Bay Packers.

“Like breathing, it’s easy,” he said. “I know it’s a cute story for you guys, but it is a pebble in my shoe, to be quite honest with you, in terms of the things that I have to do in an effort to get this group ready to play this week.”

While the media and fans are taking George Pickens’ situation very seriously, for Mike Tomlin it is just a “pebble” in his shoes. His choice of words was quite controversial because it reflects that for the team George Pickens is of little significance and it can spark further controversy.

George Pickens deleted social media post

George Pickens wasn’t happy with the lack of targets he was getting. In response to his limited targets and performance, Pickens posted “free me” on his Instagram story and unfollowed his quarterback Kenny Pickett who had a serious injury, head coach, and the Steelers’ official Instagram account.

He also deleted all his pictures in the Steelers jersey. Pickens’ frustration stemmed from his low yardage in the game against the Titans, where he had only two receptions for -1 yards.

After the WR posted the Insta story, fans speculated that he wanted out of the team. But the way the coach has described the situation, the Steelers will not consider the request of the WR.

All they are focused on right now is their performance in the games. The team is in the first spot in the AFC Wild Card but is part of the highly competitive AFC North. Therefore, every game is crucial for them.

Let’s wait and watch how this George Pickens drama will unfold. The key question remains whether the team will give him a better role in the games or choose to honor his request for a release.
