Manchester United returns to this edition of the Champions League with an unpleasant campaign so far this season. They have only managed a single win in the competition this season and currently sit at the bottom of Group F standings.
The Premier League side prepares to take on Turkish opposition Galatasaray tonight in Istanbul in a do-or-die fixture. The former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has issued a warning to the players as they need three points to keep themselves alive in the competition.
Dimitar Berbatov lashes out at Manchester United players
Eric ten Hag’s managed side started their Champions League season with a 4-3 defeat against Bayern Munich and then suffered a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Galatasaray, whom they are facing later tonight, courtesy of a winner scored by Mauro Icardi for the Turks.
They registered a single win in the competition against FC Copenhagen at Old Trafford before losing in the return leg against the same rival. This defeat dragged them to the bottom of the points table, making things difficult. Now, they are left with two must-win games in hand.
Former Premier League star and Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov, renowned for his excellent first touch and goal-scoring prowess, has issued a warning to the players ahead of their crucial clash.
He said, “The chances are still there for United to qualify – they can do it. It depends on the other games as well. It’s going to be tough for sure because United have put themselves in that position.”
He added further, “Every game is different, especially when you go to Galatasaray they have good players and crazy fans. But forget that when you step on the pitch, try to concentrate and know you have good players, hungry players coming into the team full of confidence and try to mix it with experience. Try to attack and score goals and don’t make f***ing stupid mistakes.”
