Dragon Lee defeating Dominik Mysterio to become new North American Champion at NXT Deadline leaves WWE fans in splits: “Great go fight Gunther”

Dominik Mysterio, one of WWE’s promising new-generation wrestlers, was set to face the longest-reigning one-time NXT North American Champion and former two-time NXT Tag Team Champion Wes Lee. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Lee couldn’t compete against Dominik on the December 5 episode of WWE NXT.

Wes informed the WWE universe that he needed surgery, forcing him to back out of the title shot. Rey Mysterio then announced that Dragon Lee would challenge Dominik for the NXT North American Championship instead, resulting in Dominik’s dethronement.

Dragon Lee beats Dominik Mysterio

“Dirty” Dominik Mysterio won his title of NXT North American Champion on July 18 2023 against Wes Lee. Mysterio held his title for 74 days. On September 30 2023, in a match against Trick Williams at WWE’s No Mercy, “Dirty” Dom lost his title for the first time. Later on October Dom got his title back becoming the NXT North American Champion.

The match against Dragon Lee on December 9 at Deadline, was the day when Dominik fell from his high horse. Dragon Lee is the second coming of Rey Mysterio. Overall the match was moderately paced, both superstars gave their best in order to reign the title under their belt.

Mysterio controlled the initial phase of the match but gradually Dragon took control. Lee gave two double stomp, one on the ring apron and another inside the ring, near the end he executed his finisher to become the new champion.

After the match, Lee went over to the commentary table, where the mater of 619, Rey Mysterio was commentating. Both mentor and disciple celebrated Lee’s win. Mr. 6-1-9 was very happy with Lee’s victory and supported him over his own son. The victory marked Lee’s first title win in WWE. Dragon Lee signed to SmackDown in October, but he returned to NXT at NXT Deadline.

WWE fans happy with Dominik Mysterio’s loss

Dominik Mysterio, a member of Judgement Day, has a diverse fan base. One group admires him for what he has achieved so far, while others criticize him for how he attained those accomplishments. One of the most surprising acts was when he went against his father, Rey Mysterio, and joined Judgement Day.

The WWE universe is divided on how Dominik should proceed, with fans expressing their happiness on social media about Dom’s loss. Mysterio’s portrayal as an evil member of Judgement Day has garnered significant dislike since he joined, leading those who are not fans of Dom to celebrate this opportunity.

Some fans even addressed their interest in seeing Dominik fight against GUNTHER. The Ring General is longest reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion. So fans would love to see a change in status quo.
