How much money will Draymond Green miss out due to his suspension?

Draymond Green, the Golden State Warriors superstar, is well known for his temper. Several NBA stars like Kevin Durant, Steven Adams, LeBron James, Domantas Sabonis, Rudy Gobert and Jordan Poole have seen his temper up close.

Draymond Green has a history of getting into fights and being suspended. Still, he doesn’t stop with his on court antics. Draymond Green recently got suspended after hitting  a player from the Phoenix Suns team.

How much money will Draymond Green lose due to suspension?

The NBA has suspended Draymond Green for striking Jusuf Nurkic in the head during their game last night against the Phoenix Suns. As previously reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Green has been suspended by the NBA indefinitely.

ESPN’s Bobby Marks warned that the Golden State Warriors star might lose a sizable sum of money. Marks revealed that Green would lose $153,941 every game if his suspension lasted fewer than 20 games.

If he is suspended for fifteen games, that could come to a total of more than two million dollars. The four-time All-Star will have to pay a suspension fine of $202,922 per game if the NBA suspends him for more than 20 games.

Green claimed that he had no intention of hurting Nurkic and was only attempting to sell a call to the officials. He publicly apologized to the Suns center in his post-game interview for his careless actions that resulted in his ejection:

“I thought he was pulling my hip, and I was swinging a way to sell the call, and [I] made contact with him,” Green explained. “As you know, I’m not one to apologize for things I meant to do, but I do apologize to Jusuf [Nurkic] because I didn’t intend to hit him.”

“I sell calls with my arms. I don’t fall to sell a call, I’m not a flopper. So I was just selling the call because he was grabbing me and pulling my hip back. So I spun away, and, unfortunately, I hit him.”

Kevin Durant reacts to Draymond Green actions

Durant addressed the incident regarding Green’s suspension on Wednesday after the Phoenix suns lost to the Brooklyn Nets.

“That was insane to see,” Durant said. “Glad Nurk is all right. Never seen that before in a basketball court in an NBA game. I hope Draymond gets the help he needs. It’s been incident after incident. I know Draymond and that’s not, he hasn’t been that way when I was around him and coming into the league. Hopefully, he gets the help he needs to get back on the court and put all this stuff behind him.”

Green has now been ejected three times this season and has been suspended for five games. With 19 ejections in his career, it doesn’t seem like the league will continue to give him slaps on the wrist.

In an effort to stop similar incidents in the future, Green is reportedly going to receive counselling. To get back on the court, he will have to satisfy whatever requirements the league establishes.
