Why Lions trolled Russell Wilson with rapper Future’s songs in pregame warmups?

In a pivotal Week 15 clash, the Denver Broncos, under the leadership of star quarterback Russell Wilson, faced off against the Detroit Lions on a challenging away field. Adding intrigue to the pregame dynamics, the Lions engaged in psychological tactics by incessantly playing songs by rapper Future during Wilson’s warm-up at Ford Field.

The strategic move, aimed at exploiting Wilson’s personal history with Future, set the stage for a game characterized not only by athletic prowess but also by the subtle complexities of off-field narratives influencing on-field performance.

Why Lions trolled Russell Wilson with rapper Future’s songs?

The Lions trolled Russell Wilson with rapper Future’s songs because Future is the ex-boyfriend of Russell’s wife, Ciara Wilson. The intention was to potentially distract the QB, who was once accused of stealing girlfriend of another player, during the pregame warmups.

MLive.com reporter Kory E. Woods reported that only Future’s songs played at Ford Field for over 25 minutes while Russell and the Broncos were practicing. The music selection continued until Wilson left the field, indicating an intentional and prolonged trolling effort.

The choice of playing only Future’s hits during warmups was a targeted strategy to affect Wilson psychologically. Kory E. Woods described it as “sensational trolling,” emphasizing the impact of the tactic.

Ciara was previously engaged to rapper Future, with whom she had a child, but they split in 2014. The QB dated Ciara for two years and then tied the knot with her in 2016.

The couple has been together for almost a decade, raising four children, including Ciara’s child from her previous relationship with Future. Russell recently celeberated Ciara’s birthday by renting out entire Waffle house.

There have been conflicts between Ciara, Russell Wilson, and Future. Ciara laughed off questions about co-parenting with Future, and Future has taken digs at Russell in his songs.

Russell Wilson’s marriage to R&B star Ciara has made him a prime target for the Detroit Lions’ trolling efforts, as they decided to play his wife’s ex-boyfriend’s songs during the practice.

Lions’ psychological warfare succeeded against Russell Wilson

The psychological warfare employed by the Lions against Russell Wilson appeared to be successful. While Wilson didn’t have a poor game individually, he faced challenges in keeping the Broncos’ offense firing in the crucial week 15 game.

Wilson completed 18 of his 32 pass attempts for 223 yards and 1 touchdown. Despite the QB’s efforts, the Broncos couldn’t outscore the Detroit-based football team.

The Broncos suffered a brutal 42-17 loss in the game. The loss led the Broncos to a 7-7 record. Despite the loss, the Broncos are still in the hunt for a postseason spot.

The Broncos are now aiming to win all their upcoming games, including the one against the New England Patriots in Week 16.
