The Phoenix Suns led by Kevin Durant cruised to victory in their fixture against the sub-par Houston Rockets earlier today at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. It was a much-needed victory for Durant and Co. as they tried to get back to winning ways following their Christmas Day loss against the Dallas Mavericks led by Luka Doncic who was unrivaled on the night.
Under the generalship of Durant, the Suns found their way to the basket, knocking down pivotal three pointers and constantly hitting the mid-range shots, an attribute they are highly regarded for, ending the game 129-113. With the win, the Suns improved their season record to 15-15 which puts them just behind the Lakers who are 16-15 in the Western Conference of the NBA.
Kevin Durant’s performance in Suns victory over Rockets
Leading the Suns into battle, Kevin Durant had a stellar night as he grabbed his 18th triple double of his career proving himself unmatchable against the Rockets who had no answers to his offensive competence as they struggled to attack the basket with consistency.
Durant had a night of facilitation for the Suns as he orchestrated the right plays throughout the game which enabled his teammates to get open looks. When he wasn’t passing the rock to his players, the four-time NBA scoring champion attacked the basket at his own free will without any regard for baseless defense of the Houston Rockets.
Through the night, the Slim Reaper switched from a scorer to a facilitator and had himself a stat line where he had 27 points, 16 assists, a career high, and 10 rebounds – a complete game of basketball from the 35-year-old superstar. Having passed the rock multiple times, Durant decided to join the party as he showed out with his signature turnaround fadeaways over the helpless Rockets defense.
Eric Gordon had himself a night as he showed off his marksmanship in his return to the Toyota Center and benefitted from Durant’s beautiful and organized passing. Gordon ended the night with a career-high 27 points shooting a career-high 7 three pointers.
After a well-deserved victory against the Rockets, the Suns will hope to continue their winning momentum through their upcoming fixtures where they face the Hornets and the Magic.
Devin Booker hails Kevin Durant
Star teammate Devin Booker was in full praise of Kevin Durant, following his triple-double which helped them find their way past the Rockets. There was no doubt that the 35-year-old helped the Suns find their rhythm as he moved the ball amongst them with ease.
Speaking to the press, Booker said, “Unbelievable. Great bounce-back game after all the noise…He’s been in this thing a long time, doing it at a level that no one’s seen before. It doesn’t surprise me at all.”
Durant’s passing was crucial to the Suns’ as they shot their way to victory despite having 19 turnovers in the 48 minutes of play. Booker also spoke about the team’s communication and chemistry calling it their best talking game of the year. Booker stated, “The communication was probably the best talking game of the year”.
The game against the Rockets was a testament to Booker’s statements as their communication throughout the game was on-point. The Suns’ character was on full display with their composure and energy at a rhythmic, constant level till the final buzzer went off.
