Through a post on Instagram, Villanueva detailed the happenings of the accident which occurred earlier this week. Traveling with his wife in Mercedes G-Wagon which wasn’t used for “more than two months”, Charlie recalled that a rash driver rear ended their car and fled the scene immediately. He then detailed the injuries the pair sustained which consisted of a sore neck and a sore back along with a “messed up car”.

The accident helped the former NBA player gain a positive outlook and a sense of gratitude as he thanked God for keeping his wife and himself safe through their horrific experience on the night.

In his well detailed Instagram post, Villanueva recalled, “One thing we never take for granted is leaving the house and making it back home. If you wondering what happened, my wife and I got hit bad by another car, and the crazy part is that whomever hit me, decided to run. Sore neck, sore back, messed up car, we are thankful to see another day.”

“Our lives can’t be replaced, but the vehicle can. Thank you, God, for protecting us. We must walk in faith, not by sight. 2023 is just preparing us for 2024. So to those for whom 2023 has been a difficult year, a year of struggle be thankful, and don’t give up, because once you come out of the storm, you’ll see your true power.”, the star said.

Throughout his career which ended in 2016 with his retirement, Villanueva alternated between a small forward and power forward.

While Charlie had an average NBA career, he used his position as an NBA player to effectively become an ambassador for those suffering from Alopecia making his off-the-court contributions much more significant than his presence in the game.

Through his platform, he raised awareness through the National Alopecia Areata Foundation and received the NBA Community Assist award for his work with the organization.
