As the San Antonio Spurs and the Boston Celtics face off for third time this year, the number 1 ranking team in the Eastern Conference blew off the currently worst team in the Western Conference with a 134-101 on the score board.
The 7-foot-tall rising star, Victor Wembanyama flew high for an insanely unstoppable dunk on Celtics’ guard, Derrick White, to finally end the year 2023.
Watch: Victor Wembanyama’s insane one-handed dunk
Derrick White saw an opportunity for a fastbreak run down against San Antonio Spurs’ youngster Victor Wembanyama, on the recent Sunday’s game.
As the Boston’s star, Jayson Tatum, missed a 3-pointer which was rebounded near the halfcourt by the French rookie, who seized the immediate opportunity for a dunk.
White hoping to maintain his streak of games with at least a block per game, he thought of making a second try on the 7’4” rookie.
But of course, with Wembanyama’s extraordinary wingspan and stride, there’s was nothing left by defeat for White, who voluntarily chose to step aside rather than to challenge the seemingly inevitable slam.
Derrick White, who finished off with 17 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists, said this in a candid moment during the post-game interview:
“I’m not an idiot, I was hoping he’d take another dribble and then I could try to (block) that. But he just picked it up and I never saw it again. I was just trying to get out of the way. I assumed he was gonna take another dribble, but yeah, that was crazy.”
Despite Devin Vassell’s and Victor Wembanyama’s commendable effort for the Spurs, finishing off with 22 points and 21 points with 7 rebounds respectively on the board, it wasn’t enough to stop the ‘Championship-caliber’ Celtics as the Head Coach of the Spurs, Greg Popovich had previously proclaimed.
NBA community react to Victor Wembanyama’s incredible dunk
While the Boston Celtics showcase their dominance over the league as the NBA’s top team by securing a great win for the year, the French ‘Alien’ of the Spurs captured most of the spotlights with jaw-dropping dunks that lefts the fans in awe.
The gigantic rookie only needed one dribble before launching into an effortlessly spectacular slam dunk, showcasing a move that could easily contend for the play of the year.
Fans go wild with the sight of this long stride dunk, recalling a similar dunk made by the Air Jordan himself.
The admirers even suggest that he’s the ‘cheat code’ that the Spurs actually need for the upcoming seasons to get the trophy to themselves.
