UFC stars react to Magomed Ankalaev’s win
UFC kicked off their 2024 campaign today, where Magomed Ankalaev squared off against Johnny Walker in the main event. This time Ankalaev came fully prepared to finish his business with Walker. They were supposed to feature under UFC 294 card in 2023 but the fight ended in a no contest.
This fight was a gateway to a title fight, and hard-work done by Magomed materialized in the fight when he knocked out Walker in the second round. His dominant win not only got him closer to a title bout which he even asked for after the fight but also earned him some praise from Tom Aspinall. Tom said he is a big fan of Magomed. Aspinall said, “I’m a big fan of Magomed Ankalaev.”
Not only Aspinall but also ex-Bantamweight Champ Aljamain Sterling was left in awe after watching Ankalaev’s finish. Sterling said, “Wow! Ankalaev! Just caught the replay. That was a crazy ending.”
Magomed Ankalaev’s win streak in UFC
Magomed Ankalaev is another talented fighter from Dagestan, Russia. Even though he is #3 in UFC Light-Heavyweight rankings, he didn’t get off to a great start in his UFC career. He faced defeat on his UFC debut against Paul Craig. He lost the bout by submitting to a triangle choke at 4:59 mins in the 5th round.
However, he hasn’t faced any other defeat yet and has maintained a win streak of 10. He even got a title bout against Jan Błachowicz but it ended in a controversial split-decision draw. 22 memebers of the media out of 25 said that Ankalaev won the bout.
With a 10-fight winning streak in the UFC, Ankalaev now stands second only to the legendary Jon Jones, who holds a current streak of 13 victories.
