With fame, harassment and stalking go hand-in-hand and Taylor Swift, being a global icon, has faced her fair share of stalking. From instances including a man trying to enter her house by hitting the door with his car to a man arrested thrice outside her home, the pop icon has faced some horrible stalking incidents.
While social media stalking and stalkers coming to her residences were still understandable, someone has even been stalking the Karma singer in mid-air.
Taylor Swift sends cease and desist to flight tracker
Taylor Swift’s legal team recently sent a cease-and-desist letter to Jack Sweeney, a college student who tracks her private jet. The team claimed that Swift is living “in a constant state of fear for her personal safety” due to Sweeney’s tracking activities.
The letter warned of legal action if Sweeney continued his “stalking and harassing behavior.”
Sweeney, a University of Central Florida student, tracks celebrities’ private jets using publicly available data from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He operates under various social media handles on different platforms to report on Swift and other celebrities’ private jet locations.Â
Taylor Swift’s legal team emphasized that this act could pose a significant threat to her.
“While this may be a game to you, or an avenue that you hope will earn you wealth or fame, it is a life-or-death matter for our Client. Ms. Swift has dealt with stalkers and other individuals who wish her harm.”
However, Sweeney highlighted that Taylor’s fans are most excited about knowing her location and he doesn’t do that for any harmful purpose. He even argued that Taylor Swift’s location details are also shared by other sources.
“When the Embassy of Japan in the USA makes a statement saying that they are confident Swift can make it on a flight from Tokyo to the Super Bowl, I think the people are interested and that you should have a decent expectation that your jet will be tracked whether or not I do it, as after all, it is public information.â
However, the Karma Singer’s legal team has strictly warned him not to track her jets again, which is understandable considering how stalkers can use this information in various harmful ways.
The pop star sells one of her private jets
Taylor Swift sold her Dassault Falcon 900LX private jet to Car Shield, a Missouri-based car insurance company, for $40 million.
The transaction took place on January 30. Swift initially purchased the jet in 2011 for the same amount, but its second-hand value is now approximately $7 million.
The Karma singer owns another private jet, a Dassault Falcon 7X, worth $54 million. She used this jet for the Eras Tour. However, she has faced criticism for her carbon emissions due to extensive private jet travel.
She used her jet for tours, events, and even to attend the games of his boyfriend, Travis Kelce, last year, which made her a top offender for private jet CO2 emissions.
However, Swift’s spokesperson responded to criticism by stating that her jet is often loaned out to other individuals. So, not all the CO2 emissions were due to her. The pop icon has also purchased carbon credits to offset her jet use.
Taylor Swift is going to use her private jet for one more purpose, which is a private flight from her concert in Tokyo to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. The game is scheduled for February 11, and hopefully, she will be there to support Travis Kelce in the final game. Will her presence inspire a Super Bowl victory for the Chiefs?
