Baltimore Ravens rookie WR Zay Flowers faced many setbacks in the 2023 season. From a penalty to a turnover in the AFC Championship Game, Flowers made many mistakes, and he acknowledged them by promising that he will learn from his mistakes in the future.
Unfortunately, the recent reports indicate besides football he will have to learn a lot of other things from his past mistakes as the player is now underway legal investigation over domestic assault charges.
Why is Zay Flowers being investigated?
Zay Flowers is now being investigated for an alleged domestic assault. Two law enforcement agencies from Maryland and Massachusetts are involved in the case.
Reportedly, the incident occurred in the Owings Mills, Md. area on Jan. 21, although there are no additional information available regarding the plaintiff of the allegations. It is worth noting that the incident occurred before the Ravens AFC Championship game, which was originally played on Jan 28.
The team is aware of the charges as they released a statement, “We are aware of the report regarding Zay Flowers. We take these matters seriously and will have no further comment at this time.”Ā
However, no details about the incident or the further investigation have been shared. The agencies involved in the case acknowledged that they were aware of the alleged assault but couldn’t disclose the information. Even the police didn’t share any information stating that the law of the state of Massachusetts protects the privacy of victims.
What potential punishment does Ravens WR face?
As of now, Zay Flowers has not been arrested or charged with any wrongdoing, but investigations are ongoing. However, if the accusations against the rookie wide receiver are proven true, he could potentially face severe consequences.
The Baltimore Ravens have historically taken a strict stance on domestic violence cases, maintaining a zero-tolerance policy for players accused of such misconduct. In the past, the team suspended Ray Rice in 2014 after he assaulted his fiancƩe.
In light of this, the team may opt to impose disciplinary actions against Flowers, which could include fines, suspension, or even expulsion from the team or the league.
As the case is still under investigation, the Ravens have not yet suspended the player. In fact, the rookie WR even played in the AFC title game against the Kansas City Chiefs six days after the alleged assault.
Upon conclusion of the investigation, Zay Flowers will also have to face legal consequences which can be a huge fine or years of prison time if found guilty. This case is crucial for the future of the WR as it poses a significant threat to his future in the NFL and with the Ravens.Ā
