A basketball genius did something remarkable recently that cannot be overlooked by anyone with the slightest of hoop knowledge. Without even taking the WNBA court, she has moved the needle in an unprecedented manner that even NBA star Stephen Curry stood and applauded.
With history unfolding in front of the US basketball scene, the NCAA star has thoroughly positioned herself as the next face of women’s basketball in the nation. While coming agonizingly close to the aforementioned goal, there was no shortage of praise for the 6-foot guard.
Who is Caitlin Clark?
Caitlin Clark is the college basketball sensation who has grabbed all the attention of the NBA community with her stellar portfolio. Her outstanding performance for the Iowa Hawkeyes has brought her closer to breaking a record and being the NCAA’s leading scorer in women’s basketball history.
Talking about her excellent skills, the South Carolina coach, Dawn Staley said, “Even the ones who are just starting to see her will be talking about her greatness”.
Talking to the media, the 22-year-old said, “The biggest thing is coming in and being intentional about every single thing we do, no matter how long we go on the court. You have to win practice every single day if you want to win on game day”.
She has averaged 32.1 points so far this season and has 3,520 career points. Clark needs 8 more points to break the record of Kelsey Plum, who has 3,527 career points in her four years (2013–2017). Since joining Iowa in 2020, she has won USBWA National Freshman of the Year in 2021, three-time USBWA First-Team All-American since 2021, and Naismith College Player of the Year in 2023. She also received the USBWA National Player of the Year in 2023, along with the AP Player of the Year.
What did Stephen Curry say about Clark?
The Golden State Warriors star, Stephen Curry was all praises when asked about Caitlin Clark. Calling her a complete package, Curry said, “You can’t help but watch where she’s shooting from, the range, the confidence, the flare. She’s a performer… Her floor game is as impressive. So, she’s kind of the total package” The 4-time NBA champion admitted that they have identical playing styles when the reporters told him about the constant comparison being drawn between the two.
The Warriors guard himself was a great NCCA star who represented the Davidson Wildcats and led the team, which was in the 10th position, to the Elite Eight in 2008. Curry will soon face WNBA three-point shootout Champion, Sabrina Ionescu in a three-point competition in the NBA All-Star weekend.
Hopefully, she will be able to set up the landmark in her next game against Michigan on their home court.
