Why does Leicester City face point deduction threat?
The 2015/16 Premier League winners emerged as the newest addition to the list who can be facing a point deduction for breaching the Profit and Sustainability rules. The EFL financial reporting unit(CFRU) has stated that the club has failed to submit the 2023-24 accounts which was due to 1st of March, potentially leading to major repercussions in future.
As per the reports, the Foxes has broken the PSR rule by exceeding the spending limit of the Premier League last season with a deficit of over ÂŁ105 million and also came into the hot radar line this season. Additionally they are under scrutiny as they found themselves incurring ÂŁ83 million loss in the Championship this season.
Thus, now Leicester has found themselves in a huge trouble as they have to reduce such deficit before the end of the June. If they failed to do it, they might face a point reduction even upon promotion. This means that the club might be selling some big players to raise significant funds.
However, Foxes are not the only team who can face deduction; Nottingham Forest is also under investigation for breaching the PSR rules. Additionally, Everton has already been penalized with a 10 points deduction and currently sits in the lower half of the table.
