Islam Makhachev dismisses Justin Gaethje vs Max Holloway BMF fight
Islam Makhachev, the esteemed UFC lightweight champion, has consistently expressed his disdain for the BMF title. During a conversation with Daniel Cormier, he openly ridiculed the concept of a BMF fight.
A recent “MMA Junkie” video suggests that Makhachev shares similar sentiments to his close confidant, Khabib Nurmagomedov. He passionately opposed the idea of a BMF title defense at UFC 300, drawing parallels to the main event of UFC 291. Makhachev questioned the legitimacy of such a title and did not hold back his criticism of Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway’s participation in the BMF title fight on April 13th.
“This is useless fight for useless belt. Nobody gains anything from this fight,” stated Islam. Makhachev’s continual distaste for the ‘BMF’ title idea was a major factor in his criticism of the UFC’s decision to host the match. He did, however, also identify a different reason for his objections. What’s interesting is that Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is close to him, has previously criticized Dana White and the UFC for similar reasons.
Khabib Nurmagomedov criticized UFC BMF battle before Islam Makhachev
The upcoming fight between Justin Gaethje, a prominent lightweight contender, and former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway for the “BMF” championship at UFC 300 in April has generated excitement among many fight fans.
However, there are concerns among some that this bout could mark the end of the 155-pound division for the UFC. Former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov shares these apprehensions.
Justin currently holds the BMF champion title and is strongly considered a top contender for the UFC lightweight championship. Many UFC analysts and fans anticipate Gaethje receiving a lightweight title shot soon. Both Khabib and Makhachev view Gaethje as a deserving contender.
However, Makhachev won’t face Gaethje next as the UFC has scheduled him for a “BMF” championship defense at UFC 300. This decision has even led Khabib to express dissatisfaction with the UFC, feeling that Gaethje should be given a legitimate opportunity for the title instead of engaging in what he deems as unnecessary bouts.
