Since Matt Riddle left WWE last year, fans have been curious about his future throughout 2024 as he has fought for New Japan, MLW, and AAA. His recent remarks on meeting Tony Khan sparked widespread speculation that he may join AEW. However, recent reports indicate that an AEW debut isn’t likely for Riddle.
The King of Bros. recently discussed the possibility of joining AEW in an interview with Sports Illustrated. He complimented AEW and went into depth about an uncomfortable encounter he had with Tony Khan.
However, Matt might be disappointed after seeing the latest Fightful Select report. It says Tony Khan hasn’t shown any interest in signing him and doesn’t plan to do so in the future.
According to the report, one further reason not to do business with the former WWE star is that AEW superstars hardly collaborate with Riddle on the indie circuit.
Another reason Tony Khan might not be interested in Matt Riddle is Riddle’s past marijuana controversy. Khan may prefer to avoid working with controversial former WWE figures.
Matt Riddle suspects AEW President dislikes him
In a recent interview with Steven Muehlhausen of SI Takedown, Matt Riddle expressed his love for AEW but admitted that his conversation with AEW’s CEO didn’t go well.
Matt said, “I talked to Tony (Khan). I don’t know if he likes me. He seemed happy. I wrestled Zach Sabre Jr. in Chicago. He seemed cool about it. I don’t know.”
He further explained the situation by noting, “When you meet me, I’m very sarcastic. But when I met him, I was like, ‘Oh, you like that match’? But I said it a different way, and he looked at me all confused. And I was like, ‘Never mind, dude’. I just walked away. So that was my experience with that.”
