Lakers’ New Recruit Christian Koloko Still Under Medical Review

Christian Koloko was a smart pick for the Lakers this summer. Despite his lack of star power, this approach carries little risk but might provide substantial payoffs.

The fact that Koloko has been battling a blood clot problem since last season made many question if he would ever clear again medically. The new season gets closer, but this question is still unsolved.

Christian Wood’s injury has left the Lakers short on frontcourt players before the new season starts. They hope Koloko can help, but he still needs NBA approval to play. Koloko feels good about his recovery, but things aren’t completely set with the NBA’s medical team.

According to Koloko’s interview with TMZ, he said, “Right now, I’m just waiting for the NBA to give me the green light, basically. Like you said, the Lakers did their job. My doctors gave me the green light. Now we’re just waiting on the NBA. So, we’re pretty optimistic everything goes well.”

How will Christian Koloko boost the Lakers’ frontcourt?

Christian Koloko has played 58 NBA games and averages 3.1 points and 2.9 rebounds in 13.8 minutes. While these numbers aren’t amazing, they are helpful for the Lakers right now. It’s vital for him to be ready for training camp. His absence from last season could potentially set him back if he doesn’t receive clearance now.

If Koloko gets the green light, his height and long wingspan would really help the Lakers, especially since they haven’t done well in defense and rebounding besides Anthony Davis. The fact is that Koloko himself feels confident and says he is ready to help the team win.
