NBA legend Magic Johnson has responded to Anthony Edwards after the young Timberwolves star made controversial comments about the league. Known for his “trash talk,” Edwards often seeks the spotlight.
However, this time, his remarks drew backlash from current and former NBA stars, including Johnson, who provided a strong response to the 23-year-old.
In a recent interview, Edwards suggested that the NBA is “softer” than previous generations, claiming that Michael Jordan was the only player with real skill in the 1980s.
Magic Johnson, a five-time NBA champion and one of the greatest players ever, didn’t like what Anthony Edwards said. On Jimmy Kimmel Live, Johnson told Edwards about all the amazing talent in the 1980s.
He said, “I think he should’ve asked somebody, maybe his father or his grandfather about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dr. J., Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Clyde Drexler, all these guys, Dominique Wilkins. We had some of the most dominant players that’s ever played.”
“You might want to talk trash when you’ve won something,” he continued. You know, if this came from some of the guys who just won on the Celtic team, OK, you might want to look at it. But you haven’t won anything.”
Paul George calls Anthony Edwards’ comments “immature”
Paul George, a big fan of Dr. J, grew up watching Michael Jordan. So, he has a solid view of the game from the 90s. During his Podcast P, George said Edwards’ opinion was “disrespectful to the game” and “very immature.” He believes younger players should respect the legends who paved the way.
He said, “I thought it was a very immature comment. Obviously, Anthony Edwards is super talented and is a huge talent going forward, but just how much the game has grown and how far you got to pay dues to those dudes that did it before us, and I think that’s just where the translation between that era and his era.”
