Gunther is one of WWE’s top champions. Since winning the heavyweight title at SummerSlam, he shows no signs of slowing down. WWE initially planned a huge showdown between Ring General and Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 40. However, due to a lawsuit, Lesnar couldn’t compete then.
So, WWE has chosen Goldberg as the 37-year-old’s next rival. No one knows when they’ll face off, but with Crown Jewel approaching, Goldberg could hand the Heavyweight champion a major loss in that event, intensifying their rivalry to new heights.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there are currently no plans for a match between GUNTHER and Goldberg at Crown Jewel. Instead, He is set to face Cody Rhodes. This left fans wondering if the Goldberg match would ever happen.
Meanwhile, in a recent Q&A session featuring Bill Apter and WrestleVotes, Apter suggested, “Think of this. It’s going to be Gunther and Cody [Rhodes] at the Crown Jewel. Suppose Goldberg shows up and this is where that Crown Jewel thing and he spears Gunther to cause him to lose to Cody.”
Moreover, in the Q&A session, it was disclosed that the match plans were established prior to Bad Blood 2024, with Survivor Series emerging as the most likely event for their anticipated face-off.
So, before that happens, there might be a twist at Crown Jewel that sets up a Survivor Series bout as Bill Apter speculates that Goldberg could spear Gunther, which would lead to him losing to Cody, kind of like what CM Punk did to Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 40.
Triple H on Gunther vs Goldberg match
The WWE community is brimming with anticipation for the upcoming Crown Jewel event, where Triple H will introduce the new Crown Jewel belt for champions to compete. The Ring general is set to face Cody Rhodes for this title, but fans are eager to see a showdown between Gunther and Goldberg after their heated exchange at Bad Blood.
When asked about when their match might happen, Triple H hinted that it could occur at any major event—Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, or WrestleMania 41. He noted, “The further you go, time catches up with all of us, and so the further you go, those talks get further and further away from reality.”
The hunter added, “But I don’t know. I saw Bill earlier in the day, and it was great. I saw Bill later in the day, and there was a different look on his face with a spark in his eye, so I would say never say never.”
