The Los Angeles Lakers secured an exciting 128-122 overtime win against the Phoenix Suns in their last preseason game on Thursday night. After losing 118-114 in their first matchup, the Lakers rallied back on the road, even without one of their key players.
Besides, JJ Redick’s favorite rookie made a standout performance, proving why he deserves a spot on the pro team. Rookie guard Dalton Knecht stole the show with an outstanding 35 points, including 20 in the fourth quarter and overtime. Anthony Davis also shined, scoring 35 points with 10 rebounds and 4 assists.
Despite strong efforts from Devin Booker, who scored 22 points, and Kevin Durant with 19, the Suns couldn’t match the Lakers’ determination, especially with Dalton’s standout performance.
The Lakers are doing great heading into the regular season after this win. Dalton Knecht played really well and will likely stay on the team. But Bronny’s future is uncertain due to his lackluster showing.
Former Lakers star believes Bronny James needs more time to develop
Despite all that ongoing Bronny James’ criticism, former Lakers’ star Charles Barkley is excited to see Bronny James play in the NBA with his dad, LeBron James. On the “Throwbacks” podcast, Barkley talked about the challenges Bronny faces because of his dad’s fame.
The 11-time All-Star said, “We’re all rooting for him because we respect LeBron so much. But it won’t be easy; he has a target on his back. People will say he’s in the NBA just because of his dad, and he has to prove himself every day.”
Despite early struggles, Barkley believes in Bronny’s talent. “He needs time to grow and develop his game,” he said. Barkley added, “They must approach this situation carefully. He’s not a finished product yet.”
