Everyone in the NBA was excited to see Bronny James play with his dad in the first game of the season against the Timberwolves. Although Bronny only played for 2 minutes, it made headlines for the Lakers when father and son shared the court together.
Now that the special event is over, the team is focusing on the next phase of the season. To help Bronny improve his skills, the Lakers announced the date for his G League debut. This decision shows they are dedicated to helping him grow as a pro player.
The Los Angeles Lakers have announced that rookie Bronny James will begin splitting time between the NBA team and their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, starting after the team’s five-game road trip, which concludes on November 6, 2024. The South Bay Lakers’ game against the Salt Lake City Stars on November 9, 2024, will mark Bronny’s G League debut.
Bronny James was the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft after one season at Southern California. The plan for Bronny to develop his skills in the G League while also getting NBA experience has been in place since the beginning of the season.
Reddick said Friday, “Our plans are always fluid based on real-time. I believe we have two guys dressing today that, as of yesterday, we’re not dressing out.” He added, “The plan for Bronny to move between the Lakers and South Bay has always been the plan since day one. Rob and I have talked about that. LeBron’s talked about that.”
Bronny James did not play against the Suns
Bronny James didn’t play in the Lakers’ 123-116 victory against the Phoenix Suns. Fans were really looking forward to seeing him play alongside his dad, LeBron James, but the coaches chose to give him some rest and get him ready for his move to the G League next month.
So, this weekend the Lakers have their first back-to-back games, starting with the Kings on Saturday. Coach Redick might decide to use his whole roster, including Bronny, to handle the challenge of playing two games in just two days.
