As WWE legend John Cena embarks on his farewell tour in 2025, rumors are swirling about who his final opponent might be at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. The WWE is reportedly considering a high-profile match that could see Cena face off against one of the current world champions.
The former WWE Champion plans to wrestle all year, with 36 matches lined up. Fans believe Cena might break the world title record of 16 reigns, which he shares with Ric Flair, to become a 17-time champion. Sources say WWE wants Cena to fight for a world title at WrestleMania 41, maybe against Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter said, “We do know that the idea of Cena challenging one of the two champions, in an effort to have him break Flair’s record is something strongly talked about, including for Mania.”
While anything is possible, it seems unlikely that Cena will challenge Cody Rhodes. Given Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s recent appearance and Roman Reigns’ imminent return for the WWE undisputed champion, Gunther appears to be the ideal choice for Cena’s farewell tour at WrestleMania.
John Cena’s candid take on not wanting kids
In a recent interview on the Club Shay Shay podcast, WWE legend and Hollywood star John Cena opened up about his decision not to have children. Cena, who is 47 years old, shared that he simply doesn’t feel ready to make the investment of time and effort that parenting requires.
He said, “My biggest fear is, as someone who’s driven—many times stubborn, and selfish—I try to approach the world with kindness and curiosity, but I don’t think I’m personally ready, nor will I ever be, to invest the time it needs to be a great parent because I want to live life for all it is.”
John Cena, who is married to artist Shay Shariatzadeh, said that not wanting kids is a personal choice. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t like children. He enjoys his life and all the experiences he’s had. He just wants to focus on his career and relationships instead.
