The release of Baron Corbin, a former NXT Tag Team Champion and WWE United States Champion, by the company shocked many in the wrestling world. But no one may have been more surprised than Kurt Angle, the Olympic gold medalist from the Atlanta Games. He feels that WWE wasted his loss to Corbin at WrestleMania 35.
Kurt Angle is frustrated with how WWE handled Baron Corbin’s booking and recent release. In a recent interview with Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone, Angle expressed that WWE didn’t use Corbin’s WrestleMania win to build on his momentum.
He said, “Baron, I think he’s underrated. I think it kinda sucks — they started utilizing him the way they should have, they had him beat me, which I was okay with, it was my last match and obviously you’re gonna lose your last match when you retire. Baron, after that, he ended up winning King Of The Ring and then nothing else happened with him.”
Kurt continued, “It’s a little disappointing to know that he beat a legend at WrestleMania in the legend’s last match and they didn’t really do much with him after that. For me, it makes me feel like I did that for nothing. It’s not like, ‘Screw you Angle’, but, it kinda is [laughs].”
Kurt’s statement shows that he felt WWE didn’t let Corbin show his full talent. Even though he was disappointed, the gold medalist praised Corbin’s skills and personality, believing he could have succeeded without the gimmicks.

In an interview with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Corbin said that hearing criticism all the time was challenging for him. He said, “Do you understand how hard this is to do, on everything in your life? It is the TV, the social media, the home. It can be frustrating to go out there and just get treated like dirt… That’s tough to walk around with. So, yeah, it can be difficult.”
