Kevin Owens Looks Back at His First WWE Match with John Cena

Kevin Owens has become one of the most popular characters in WWE right now, especially with his feud against two of his best friends, Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. No one expected WWE to add the Bloodline into the mix, but it created an exciting new storyline for ‘The Prizefighter.’

Now, to build up his upcoming match against Cody Rhodes at the Saturday Night Main Event, he recently appeared in a WWE Retrospective video to celebrate his 10-year milestone. In it, he talked about many things, including looking back at his WWE debut.

In the video, Kevin Owens talked about his first big match against John Cena. At the time, Owens was the NXT Champion. He surprised everyone by not just facing Cena, but beating him in his first match on the main WWE roster.

KO said, “As the match goes on, the crowd starts reacting more and more. The match was one thing, and then obviously beating John as clean as a whistle, at the time, was really almost unseen. It wasn’t something that would happen very often.”

Kevin Owens Never Thought of Headlining WrestleMania

Reflecting on his WWE career, Kevin Owens recently shared that he never dreamed of headlining WrestleMania in that video. Owens admitted that he always believed such a role wasn’t meant for him.

He said, “To me, I’m like, I’m never gonna main event WrestleMania. That’s not gonna happen. If you ever hear me in an interview say, ‘My dream was always to main event WrestleMania,’ I’m full of s***. I’m lying. I never thought that was possible. But it happened twice.”
